THE HARTFORD PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP

Every student that meets our Promise Scholar criteria becomes a Hartford Promise Scholar.
No application. Pure support.

STEP 1

BE A HARTFORD PUBLIC STUDENT

Attend a Hartford public high school continuously since 9th grade.

STEP 2

BE A HARTFORD RESIDENT

Be a Hartford resident throughout high school.

STEP 3

GET YOURSELF TO SCHOOL

Have a 93% or better cumulative attendance record during high school.

STEP 4

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better on a 4.0 scale in high school.

In addition to our scholarship, Hartford Promise is REACHING FORWARD by supporting Scholars in college and REACHING BACK to support Hartford public high school students in achieving their college aspirations.

REACHING FORWARD

Hartford Promise builds strong college and university partnerships to make sure that every Promise Scholar is KNOWN and provided the transitional support and services proven to increase the likelihood for college success, including:

Mentoring
Peer-to-Peer support networks
“Navigating College” resources for students/parents
Internships and other work opportunities

REACHING BACK

Working closely with Hartford Public Schools, we ensure that students are college aware, college focused, and academically on-track for college admission and success. Our goal is to reach students and families by fifth grade.

Hartford Promise collaborates with college access, college prep, and support services through the Hartford Public School system and local community organizations. We help Hartford students take full advantage of all possible resources to ensure their college future.

Our Promise To You
The Promise Scholarship is a very generous award that can be used to cover anything a college bills a student including room and board, fees, tuition, etc, and it can be used at any accredited college or university in the country.

A Last-Dollar Scholarship
The Hartford Promise Award is a last-dollar scholarship, meaning our award covers the gap that remains after all individual grants, financial aid, and other scholarships have been applied to the scholar’s account. This gap can often stop Hartford students from attending college. We are removing that hurdle.

What You Get
Scholars attending any accredited, non-for-profit 4-year college or university full-time receive up to $5,000 per year from Hartford Promise plus up to $20,000 per year from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for a total of up to $25,000 per year. Students attending any accredited, not-for-profit 2-year college full-time receive up to $2,500 per year.
