The Director of Development will be responsible for maintaining existing donor relationships while also identifying, soliciting, and cultivating individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations capable of making major gifts to support Hartford Promise and our Integrated College Success Model.

THE PERSON You believe – and your work has demonstrated your belief – all students can earn a college degree and the life that comes with it. As the Director of Development, your primary mission is to create and execute a funding vision and strategy to ensure Hartford Promise maintains and grows its financial resources. You will work independently as well as alongside the President and Grant Coordinator to steward and grow a diversified and sustainable investor base including individual donor, foundation, corporate and public support.
THE ROLE • Primary objective - you will lead the charge as we raise $5M over the next two years for scholarships and support services. • Scheduling and executing a multi-year vision for Hartford Promise, including overseeing multi-year goals, strategies, and campaigns across foundation, corporate, individual, and public funding streams. • Effectively managing a portfolio of 150-200 donors by reviewing and analyzing goals by making strategic decisions to inform actions and campaigns. Prioritize high-quality, long-term relationships with past and potential donors to maximize their capacity to provide financial support to Hartford Promise. Define and implement strategies that lead to major gifts. Through personal contact and donor research, identify and analyze both the capacity and inclination of these relationships to provide financial support and determine areas of interest that inspires donors to make major gifts to Hartford Promise. • Tracking detailed records of development strategies, steps, and progress of every relationship using the Salesforce database. • Writing correspondences, proposals, grants, and briefings while meeting all deadlines.• Leading your team to design, plan and execute events hosted by Hartford Promise Board members and other champions, in support of our fundraising goals. • Facilitating appropriate acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of gift commitments. • Work with the Board to increase Board members' engagement in our work and deepen their continued investment in Hartford Promise and inspire personal gifts from their individual networks. • Supporting the President to influence and motivate new and existing external constituents to invest in our work.
Minimum Education and Experience Required • Bachelor’s Degree Required. • Minimum three years’ experience with a successful track record in nonprofit fundraising, including at least two years’ experience with leadership gifts. • Direct experience in youth/education-related nonprofit fundraising preferred. • Knowledge of Salesforce is required. Experience with Salesforce report and dashboard creation is preferred. • Experience with data management, excel, and managing spreadsheets is required.

Attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines are critical for success. • Exceptional written and oral communication skills that allow you to make a compelling case for Hartford Promise’s mission to bring college success and economic mobility to the children of Hartford. • Exceptional judgment and ability to exercise discretion handling confidential financial and personal information. • Demonstrated ability to work with optimism and enthusiasm in a team environment, achieving one’s personal goals, while supporting others in their goals and working together on shared goals. • Superb interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop relationships with a broad range of personalities.
