Jayden Senior

New York University
​Mechanical Engineering

As Jayden finishes his final year at NYU, he reflects on how much he has grown academically, personally, and professionally. He has become a leader on campus, served as communications chair for the National Society of Black Engineers, supported fellow students, and secured three internships during college.
This summer, Jayden will begin a full-time leadership rotational program with Stanley Black & Decker after interning there as a mechanical engineering intern.

Dazania, a rising junior at UConn Storrs, shares how Hartford Promise has helped her experience college more fully. As a nursing major, she is learning not only in the classroom and simulation lab, but also through her on-campus work with Student Health and Wellness, where she supports nurses and physicians while gaining real healthcare experience.

Hartford Promise Scholars are accessing opportunities and giving back to their communities after graduation. 

Wilondja Jerome

University of Hartford
Mechanical Engineering

Arriving in Hartford from a refugee camp in Tanzania at age 13, Wilondja Jerome worked hard to learn English, excel in school, and become a first-generation college student at the University of Hartford. With support from Hartford Promise and committed Promise Champion Stanley Black & Decker, Wilondja graduated this December with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has also used his voice to advocate for Promise programs at the State Capitol, helping more students access the support that helped open doors for him.

Wilondja’s Promise story reaches across his family, too: his younger sibling, Saidi, is a Promise Scholar at UHart, and his sister Apolina is a Promise Scholar at CCSU. All three are pursuing STEM fields and helping build the talented workforce Connecticut needs.
