HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT: We are delighted to announce that our very own Dr. Sivan Hines has been named as the next President of Hartford Promise! The entire Promise family is VERY excited to have Sivan step into the leadership of Hartford Promise on July 1st and guide the future of our organization as it continues to serve and support thousands of current and future Promise Scholars.
“Our Board of Directors is thrilled to have a leader of Sivan’s caliber to guide Hartford Promise in its next chapter of transformative impact” expressed Board co-chairs Walt Harrison and Bob Patricelli. “Her extensive background, passion for our community, local experience and knowledge, and deep commitment to our work made her the clear choice for our next President.”
Since moving to Hartford in 2022, Dr. Hines has been the Senior Director at Hartford Promise. In that role she led the expansion of our Reaching Forward Team and greatly deepened their efforts to provide resources and support for our Scholars in college. She has worked tirelessly to prepare Scholars for early career opportunities, while building partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create internships/career paths for our talented Scholars. “With her lifelong focus on health, youth, and equity, we could not have found a better person than Sivan to take the helm of Hartford Promise and grow our transformative work with our Scholars to help them reach higher and be successful in college and beyond. I am excited that the future of Hartford Promise is in such great hands,” shared outgoing Founding President, Richard Sugarman.
Prior to joining Hartford Promise, Dr. Hines was a dedicated pediatrician in Atlanta for over 20 years. She was also a deeply committed community leader serving as Chair of the Board of Atlanta Youth Academy, and co-chairing its highly successful 20 million dollar building campaign. Her extensive community service also included leadership roles with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Covenant House of Georgia, and Girls Inc of Greater Atlanta. Since coming to Hartford, Dr. Hines has quickly become an extremely active and engaged community member and currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and the Advisory Board of Future Forward Connecticut.
Dr. Hines earned both her Bachelor of Arts in American Civilization and Neuroscience and her Doctor of Medicine from Brown University.
“I love everything about this organization – our clear mission, our dedicated Team, and above all our incredible Scholars. I see the strength, beauty, and talents that they possess. I have always been, and will continue to be, a fierce advocate for our Scholars, and they deserve that advocacy,” said Dr. Hines. “As we embark on the next decade of Hartford Promise, I am excited about the future of our amazing organization. There are certainly challenges to be faced, but I will work tirelessly to establish Hartford Promise as a permanent promise to the children of Hartford. The young people of Hartford deserve the hope and opportunity that Hartford Promise represents, and our city and our state need their talents.”
Dr. Hines will assume the role of President on July 1st, following Richard Sugarman’s retirement on June 30th.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sivan Hines and in supporting Hartford Promise in its ongoing mission to transform the lives of thousands of Hartford students.
